For a given set \(E\subset\mathbb{R}^d\), \(2\leq d\in \mathbb{N}\), let \(\Delta_2 (E) :=\{(|x-y|, |y-z|) : x,y,z\in E\}\subset \mathbb{R}^2\) denote the set of gaps of 2-chains in \(E\). The author proves that \(\Delta_2 (E)\) has positive Lebesgue measure provided that the Hausdorff dimension of \(E\) is greater than \(\frac{d}{2} + \frac{1}{3}\), thus improving an earlier result by \textit{M. Bennett} et al. [Anal. PDE 9, No. 3, 597--614 (2016; Zbl 1342.28006)]. In addition, the question of when the set of similarity classes of 2-chains has positive Lebesgue measure is addressed.
