The authors investigate the possible heights and widths of arbitrary lattices $L$ in generic, or generative, classes of structures. For background the reader is referred to the third author's papers [Classification of countable models of complete theories. Novosibirsk: NSTU (2018); Algebra Logika 46, No. 2, 244--268 (2007; Zbl 1164.03324); translation in Algebra Logic 46, No. 2, 134--146 (2007); The Lachlan problem. Novosibirsk: NSTU (2009); Izv. Irkutsk. Gos. Univ., Ser. Mat. 22, 106--117 (2017; Zbl 1423.03116); ``Generative classes generated by sets of diagrams'', in: Algebra and model theory 10. Novosibirsk: NSTU. 163--174 (2015)], as well as to papers [Springer Proc. Math. Stat. 219, 375--398 (2017; Zbl 1437.03124); Mat. Tr. 20, No. 2, 52--79 (2017; Zbl 1399.03007); translation in Sib. Adv. Math. 28, No. 1, 39--52 (2018)] by the authors of the paper under review. The remaining items in the list of references are: [\textit{G. Birkhoff}, Lattice theory. Third (new) ed. American Mathematical Society (AMS), Providence, RI (1967; Zbl 0153.02501)], [\textit{G. Grätzer}, General lattice theory. With appendices with B. A. Davey, R. Freese, B. Ganter, M. Greferath, P. Jipsen, H. A. Priestley, H. Rose, E. T. Schmidt, S. E. Schmidt, F. Wehrung and R. Wille. Paperback reprint of the 1998 2nd edition. Basel: Birkhäuser (2003; Zbl 1152.06300)], and [\textit{S. Burris} and \textit{H. P. Sankappanavar}, A course in universal algebra. New York - Heidelberg Berlin: Springer-Verlag (1981; Zbl 0478.08001)]. The reader is referred to these three monographs for further background. Necessary and sufficient conditions for $L$ to be totally ordered are given, and the resulting possible total orders are described. Conditions for $L$ to be a Boolean algebra are also given in the final pages.
