Let \(Q >1\) be a real number and let \(m \geq 1\) be an integer. Let \(S_m(Q)\) be the set of Salem numbers of degree \(2(m+1)\) lying in the interval \((1,Q]\). The authors show that \[|S_m(Q)|=\omega_m Q^{m+1}+O(Q^m)\] as \(Q \to \infty\), where \[\omega_m=\frac{2^{m(m+1)}}{m+1} \prod_{k=0}^{m+1}\frac{k!^2}{(2k-1)!}.\] A more general asymptotic formula for the cardinality of the set of Salem numbers of degree \(2(m+1)\) in the interval \((1,Q]\) whose Galois conjugates on the unit circle lie in some fixed subintervals of \([0,2\pi)\) is also given.
