In an earlier paper [J. Geom. 110, No. 2, Paper No. 40, 13 p. (2019; Zbl 1435.52005)], the authors proved that the radial expansion, i.e., a hyberbolic analogy for a dilation, of a hyperbolic convex set in the Poincaré disk about any point inside it results in a hyperbolic convex set. In this note, the authors prove that the convexity remains also for each asymmetric expansion. These are analogies for dilations among the axes by unequal factors \(\geq 1\). After giving a proper definition of convex sets in the hyperbolic plane, the authors use the hyperbolic polar coordinates of points to show as a lemma that any two regular curves from the point \(p\) to \(q \neq p\) are on the opposite side of the line \(pq\) if and only if their geodesic curvatures have opposite signs. To calculate the geodesic curvatures one can use the first fundamental form of the hyperbolic plane. Using this and some technical tools, the authors establish their result by direct calculation: They choose two points from set \(C'\) of the image points and show, that the geodesic curve connecting them is completely in \(C'\).
