A local Noetherian ring \((R,\mathfrak{m})\) is called quasi-Gorenstein if it admits a canonical module \(\omega_R\) such that \(R \cong \omega_R\). The deformation property with respect to a property \(\textbf{P}\) for an \(R\)-module \(M \not= 0\) says: If \(y \in \mathfrak{m}\) is an \(M\)-regular element such that \(M/yM\) has property \(\textbf{P}\), does it follows that \(M\) has property \(\textbf{P}\) too? The authors show by an example that ``quasi-Gorenstein'' does not fulfills the deformation property. Then they list seven conditions on \(R\) and an element \(y \in \mathfrak{m}\) such that \(R/yR\) quasi-Gorenstein implies that \(R\) is quasi-Gorenstein too. Moreover, in the case of a standard graded \(k\)-algebra \(R\) with \(k\) a field of characteristic zero they prove: Suppose that \(y \in R\) is a homogeneous \(R\)-regular element of positive degree with (1) \(R/yR\) is quasi-Gorenstein, (2) \(\operatorname{Proj} (R)\) is integral and normal, (3) \(\operatorname{Proj} (R/yR)\) is non-singular. Then \(R\) is quasi-Gorenstein. The authors pose the following problem: Suppose that \(R\) is local resp. graded with \(y \in \mathfrak{m}\) such that \(R/yR\) is quasi-Gorenstein normal local domain. Is \(R\) quasi-Gorenstein?
