The authors consider a stationary (steady-state case) diffusion equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions in two dimensions. The domain is divided by an imperfect interface into two disjoint subdomains. The values of the solution over subdomains satisfy some interface conditions in which a positive interface parameter is involved. This problem has a unique solution and satisfies a maximum principle. A nonlinear finite volume scheme is presented to approximate the continuous problem. The scheme can be applied to general polygonal meshes. The existence of the numerical solution is proved. It is shown that when the interface parameter tends to 0, the numerical solutions of the imperfect interface problem have a subsequence converging to the numerical solution of perfect interface problem. A domain decomposition method called Robin-Robin iteration is applied to solve the scheme and prove the discrete maximum principle (DMP) on each iteration step. Some numerical tests are presented to support the theoretical resuls. It would be interesting if the authors have linked this research to the related one of [\textit{C. Le Potier}, C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 358, No. 1, 89--95 (2020; Zbl 1447.65115)] and the references therein.
