The authors study the Gauss hypergeometric matrix function and the confluent hypergeometric matrix function using Lie algebraic techniques. For this purpose, they consider models (representations) of \(\mathrm{sl}(2,\mathbb C)\) in terms of differential operators acting on the space of the confluent hypergeometric matrix function \( {}_1F_1(A,C,z)\). A matrix integral transformation, which is motivated by the integral representation of the gamma matrix function, is defined and used to transform these model representations into matrix difference differential operator models. The transformed models act on the Gauss hypergeometric matrix functions \({}_2F_1(A,B;C;z)\). They emphasize that not all the matrices in the considered special matrix functions are commuting. The study culminates in many matrix identities involving one and two variable special matrix functions. In the process, they also obtain the bilateral type matrix difference equation satisfied by the Gauss hypergeometric matrix function. The models of irreducible representations for \(\mathrm{sl}(2,\mathbb C)\) are: \(D(-\frac12 C,A)\) and \(\uparrow_{-\frac12 C}\). They compute the group action of the corresponding Lie group \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb C)\) arising from these Lie derivatives. The Casimir element from these set of models leads to the bilateral matrix differential equation satisfied by the confluent hypergeometric matrix function and the Gauss hypergeometric matrix function.
