Bernoulli type free boundary problems and water waves (Q2662445): Difference between revisions

A free boundary problem is a problem, where one solves a given partial differential equation in a domain that is not known a priori, meaning that there is no way to know the domain before knowing the solution. The boundary of such a domain is called free boundary. To avoid an underdetermined problem-setting, it is necessary to add an additional boundary condition on the free boundary to the usual boundary condition. In this chapter the author introduced Bernoulli type free boundary problems which play an important role in free surface fluid flow. Apart from basic regularity results the author discussed singularities as well as free boundary theory of water waves.
