Recall that the class of Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-spaces is the smallest class of topological spaces which contains all compact spaces, all second countable spaces, and is invariant with respect to finite products, continuous images and closed subspaces (the author uses another definition, but this one is known to be equivalent). A subset \(A\subset X\) of a locally convex space \(E\) is (relatively) sequentially complete if every Cauchy sequence in \(A\) is convergent to a point in \(A\) (a point in \(E\)). The two main results may be summarized as follows: 1. If \(X\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, then any functionally bounded (relatively) sequentially complete \(A\subset (C(X),\tau_p)\) is (relatively) compact. 2. If \(X\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, then any functionally bounded (relatively) sequentially complete \(A\subset (C(X),w)\) is (relatively) weakly compact, where \(w\) is the weak topology of \(C_k(X)\) (where \(C_k(X)\) is the space \(C(X)\) endowed with the compact-open topology).
