A new dense output formula for the explicit Runge-Kutta pair \(BS(4,5)\) is presented. In contrast to previously published formulas all the necessary computations can be done on one additional processor in such a way that the output is available as soon as the integration step is completed (on the first processor). The interpolant is optimal in the sense that its leading error term is bounded by that of the numerical solution at the end of the step.
