Let \(R=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) be the polynomial ring in \(n\) variables over a field \(K\) and let \(I\) and \(J\) be monomial ideals of \(R\). The ideals \(I\) and \(J\) intersect transversally if \(I\cap J=IJ\). In the paper under review, the authors prove conditions for transversal intersection of monomial ideals. As an application of this result they prove that for two ideals \(I\) and \(J\) in \(R\) intersecting transversally, the ideal \(I+J\) is resolved minimally by the complex \(\mathbb{M}(I)_{\bullet}\otimes\mathbb{M}(J)_{\bullet}\), if \(\mathbb{M}(I)_{\bullet}\) and \(\mathbb{M}(J)_{\bullet}\) denote minimal free resolutions of \(I\) and \(J\) respectively.
