\(\ell\)-class groups of fields in Kummer towers (Q2075308): Difference between revisions

Let \(K_{m,n} = \mathbb{Q}(p^{1/\ell^n}, \zeta_{2 \ell^m})\) where \(p,l\) are primes. The authors aim to study the \(\ell\)-class groups of these fields. They determine the structure of the group when \(\ell=2\) and \(p \equiv 3,5\) mod \(8\) for all \(m,n\), and in some other cases. In addition, when \(\ell\) is an odd, regular prime and \(p\) is either \(\ell\) or generates \(\mathbb{Z}_{l^2}^{\ast}\), then they show that \(\ell\) does not divide the class number of \(K_{m,n}\).
