The author presents an alternative method to solve the Beltrami equation based on the Hodge star operator. A quasiconformal map \(f:\mathbb C\to\mathbb C\), \(f\in W_{\text{loc}}^{1,2}(\mathbb C)\), satisfies the Beltrami equation \[ \partial_{\overline z}f=\mu\partial_zf,\,\,\,\mu\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb C),\;\;\;\|\mu\|_{\infty}\leq k<1. \] The author proves the following theorem. Theorem 1.1. Let \(\mu:\mathbb C\to\mathbb C\) be measurable with a compact support, \(\|\mu\|_{\infty}=k<1\). Then there exists an orientation-preserving homeomorphism \(\Phi:\mathbb C\to\mathbb C\) such that \(\Phi\in W_{\text{loc}}^{1,2}(\mathbb C)\) and \(\Phi\) solves (1) almost everywhere. Additionally, \(\Phi\) can be chosen so that \(\Phi(0)=0\) and \(\Phi(1)=1\). In this case, it is unique.
