An \(FC\)-\(group\) is a group with finite conjugacy classes. Of course, abelian groups and finite groups are \(FC\)-groups. Some classical results on \(FC\)-groups are due to R. Baer and B. Neumann. \(Minimal\) \(non\)-\(FC\)-groups, that is, groups which are not \(FC\)-groups but all whose proper subgroups are \(FC\)-groups, have been classified by V.V. Belyaev and N. F. Sesekin since long time. On the other hand, the existence of a perfect locally nilpotent minimal non-\(FC\)-group is still now one of the main open questions in theory of \(FC\)-groups. The authors investigate the structure of minimal non-\(FC\)-groups, introducing restrictions of various nature on selected families of proper subgroups. If for every proper normal subgroup \(N\) of a group \(G\) and an element \(x \in G\) the subgroup \(N \langle x \rangle\) is a proper \(FC\)-subgroup of \(G\), but \(G\) is not an \(FC\)-group, the group \(G\) is called \(NFC\)-\(group\). They prove that every nonperfect \(NFC\)-group with nontrivial finite images is a minimal non-\(FC\)-group, see Theorems 2.3 and 2.4. It is possible to have conditions which are different from having nontrivial finite images (see Theorem 2.5) for instance, involving the role of maximal \(p\)-subgroups (\(p\) prime). It is also possible to determine when the derived subgroup is close to be a simple group (see Theorem 2.7). The authors show also that there exist locally nilpotent perfect \(NFC\)-\(p\)-groups which are not minimal non-\(FC\)-groups, involving McLain groups (Theorem 3.5). Torsion free \(NFC\)-groups are studied separately, due to their relevance (see Theorem 4.1), as well as infinite perfect centerfree Fitting \(p\)-groups (see Theorem 5.1).
