The paper under review is concerned with estimating the \(L\)-function of a Hecke-Maass cusp form \(g\) along the critical line. More precisely, the paper establishes a bound of the form \(L_g(1/2+it)\ll t^{1/3+\epsilon}\) (that is, a Weyl-type bound). Significantly, there are no restrictions placed on the level and nebentypus of \(g\). Prior to this paper, such results had been established for a range of special cases (as is reviewed in Section 1). The main theorem is proved using an averaged delta symbol. A sketch proof is provided in Section 2, and necessary background on automorphic forms and stationary phase analysis is given in Sections 3 and 4 respectively.
