The authors study the periodic homogenization of a nonlinear diffusion system coupled via transport fluxes with a Nernst-Planck-Poisson system. The main challenges are concerning the well-posedness of the microscopic system. Cute arguments employing an underlying energy functional for the proposed system ensure a uniform \(L^\infty\) bound on the solution, while the existence of (weak) solutions is guaranteed via a suitable application of Schäfer's fixed point theorem. The passing to the homogenization limit is done by employing the concept of two-scale convergence.
