The paper addresses the solution of three-dimensional linear elasticity crack problems by a Galerkin boundary element formulation. Existence and uniqueness are discussed and special singular trial functions are defined to improve the prediction of the stress intensity factors. Convergence of the method is shown, including asymptotic error estimates.
