In [Invent. Math. 150, No. 3, 441--483 (2002; Zbl 1029.57011)], \textit{Y. Chekanov} introduced an invariant of Legendrian knots and links in the standard contact space \((\mathbb R^3,dx-y\,dz)\), which is a (stable isomorphism type of) differential algebra \(A\). In this paper, the author refines the structure of Chekanov's algebra for Legendrian \(n\)-component links (\(n>1\)), showing that \(A\) splits into a sum of algebras \(A_g\), indexed by elements \(g\) in a free group on \(n-1\) letters. This is used to prove the following Theorem. An \(n\)-fold topologically trivial Legendrian knot (obtained by shifting one component transversely to the contact planes) admits only cyclic component permutations under Legendrian isotopy.
