The aim of this paper is to give a mathematical description of the equilibrium of masonry structures. After deriving the mathematical formulation it was reduced to a minimization problem with the help of some propositions. Theorems are established for the existence and uniqueness of the solution on function space BD(\(\Omega)\). No numerical experiments are performed for illustration. In general the paper will be of very much use for the researcher in the area of functional approximation.
