The authors consider a class of unitary evolution operators \(U(t,s)_{s,t\in [0,T]}\) associated with linear non-autonomous evolution equations of Schrödinger type defined in a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\). While the corresponding self-adjoint, positive generators and their domains are allowed to depend on time, the domains of the associated operator square roots (and hence quadratic forms) are assumed to be time-independent. Under these and some additional assumptions, the authors prove approximation formulas for the evolution operators \(U(t,s)\) in terms of weak operator limits of products of suitable approximating functions taking values in the algebra of bounded linear operators on \(\mathcal{H}\). The results are demonstrated by some examples.
