    The author discusses an alternative approach to the conservation laws in general relativity, based on general formalism for field theories on manifolds with specified boundaries. This supplements the ADM formalism (1962) and the Ashtekar and Hansen's approach to conservation laws based on the asymptotic structure of the space-time at spatial infinity (called `spi' approach in short).
