    An axiomatic characterization is given of the Grassmannians of polar spaces. The technique referred to in the title is a variation of known constructions of subspaces of the axiomatically described geometry. These subspaces are needed for a chamber system build up to which Tits' local approach can be applied to recognize the polar geometry of type \(C_ n\).
