The reviewed paper concerns the following situation. Let us consider a complex algebraic surface \(X\) of general type embedded in \({\mathbb P}^N({\mathbb C})\) and its generic projection onto \({\mathbb P}^2({\mathbb C})\). Then there exists a curve \(S_X\subset{\mathbb P}^2({\mathbb C})\) (branch curve) such that this projection form a covering over \({\mathbb P}^2({\mathbb C})\setminus S_X\). An interesting information of \(X\) can be obtained by studying the fundamental group \(\pi_1({\mathbb P}^2({\mathbb C})\setminus S_X)\) [\textit{O. Zariski}, Amer. J. 51, 305--328 (1929; JFM 55.0806.01); \textit{W. Fulton}, Ann. Math. (2) 111, 407--409 (1980; Zbl 0406.14008); \textit{J. Harris}, Invent. Math. 84, 445--461 (1986; Zbl 0596.14017)]. The group of braids [\textit{E. Artin}, Ann. Math. (2) 48, 101--126 (1947; Zbl 0030.17703)] is an important tool for studying this fundamental group [\textit{B. G. Moishezon}, Lect. Notes Math. 862, 107--192 (1981; Zbl 0476.14005); \textit{V. S. Kulikov} and \textit{M. Teicher}, Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk, Ser. Mat. 64, No. 2, 89--120 (2000; Zbl 1004.14005)]. The notion of braid monodromy is also used [see for example \textit{B. Moishezon} and \textit{M. Teicher}, Contemp. Math. 78, 425--555 (1988; Zbl 0674.14019)]. It is a homomorphism from a foundamental group to the group of braids. The authors of the reviewed paper develop the following idea. Since finding the branch curve of a surface is very difficult, they degenerate the surface into a union of planes. Thus they can find the braid monodromy of the branch curve of the degenerated surface, which is a union of lines. A regeneration of the singularities of the branch curve, studied locally, leads them to the description of the global braid monodromy of the branch curve of the original surface. In earlier papers [Lect. Notes Math. 1479, 131--180 (1991; Zbl 0764.14014), Contemp. Math. 162, 333--358 (1994; Zbl 0815.14024)], \textit{B. Moishezon} and \textit{M. Teicher} performed this regeneration for 3,4 and 6-point (a point which is the intersection of 3/4/6 planes). In the reviewed paper the authors fill the gap and find the braid monodromy of the regeneration of a 5-point.
