    A tiny step towards the Erdős-Szemerédi conjecture that \( \max\{ |A+A|, |AA|\} \gg |A|^{2-\varepsilon}\); the new exponent is 4/3 + 5/9813. Also an improved bound is given for the size of the sumset when the quotient set is small: if \( | A/A | < K |A|\), then \[ |A+A| \gg \max \{ |A|^{19/12} K^{ -5/6}, |A|^{1313/830 } K^{- 336/415 } \} . \]
