    On caractérise comme suit les sous-groupes additifs \(\Gamma\) de \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) pour lesquels il existe une fonction F méromorphe sur \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) dont les périodes forment un groupe discret \(\supset \Gamma:\) il faut et il suffit qu'il existe sur \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\) une forme hermitienne définie \(>0\) dont la partie imaginaire prenne sur \(\Gamma\times \Gamma\) des valeurs entières. D'après le théorème d'Appell-Humbert: lorsque \(\Gamma\) est de rang réel\(=2n\), F est quotient de 2 fonctions \(\theta\) de Jacobi telles que, \(\forall \gamma \in \Gamma\), \(\theta (z+\gamma)/\theta (z)\) soit l'exponentielle d'une fonction affine. Lorsque \(\Gamma\) est de rang réel \(<2n\), cette propriété des exposants peut subsister ou disparaître selon le choix de \(\Gamma\), et les Auteurs précisent la nature topologique de l'ensemble des \(\Gamma\) pour lesquels la propriété disparaît, en supposant \(\Gamma\) engendré par \(n+m\) vecteurs \({\mathbb{R}}\)-linéairement indépendants dont les n premiers forment la base canonique de \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\).
