Because of their extensive use in industry non-Newtonian fluids have gained considerable importance in last few years. Several models have been proposed and the Oldroyd model is one of them which has been modified by \textit{K. J. Walters} [Non-Newtonian Mech. 5, 113-114 (1979)]. This modified model is known as liquid B. The boundary layer produced by a fibre of a constant velocity has been investigated by Sakiadis, Koldenhof and Crane. In 1970, \textit{L. J. Crane} [(*) Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 21, 645-647 (1970)] studied the problem of flow past a stretching plate. Later, several researchers extended the results obtained by Crane (*) to various fluids [see e.g. the third author and \textit{Subhas Abel}, (*) ibid. 36, 890-892 (1985; Zbl 0591.76011)]. In this paper, we transformed the velocity distribution obtained by the third author and \textit{Subhas Abel} (*) into non-dimensional form and then we evaluate the temperature distribution and local Nusselt number in the case of linear stretching plate for large Prandtl number P.
