Sometimes, the longevity observed in biological models depends on the numbers \(n_ 1\), \(n_ 2\) of the life-prolonging and life-shortening regulating elements (cells). In some situations the evolution of \(n_ 1\) and \(n_ 2\) is modelled by a generalized Volterra type system like \[ (dn_ 1/dt)=k_ 1n_ 1(\sigma-n_ 1-n_ 2)-\beta_ 1n_ 1+c_ 1n_ 2,\leqno(1) \] \[ (dn_ 2/dt)=k_ 2n_ 2(\sigma-n_ 1-n_ 2)- \beta_ 2n_ 2+c_ 2n_ 1.\leqno(2) \] The authors study several facts concerning this system such as the existence of positive and periodic solutions, existence of almost-periodic solutions and their stability properties. Some open questions are established at the end of the paper.
