The nonlinear axisymmetric bending of polar orthotropic circular plates under arbitrary axisymmetric loads and various boundary conditions is considered. Firstly, the problem is rationally formulated by using von Kármán's equations of nonlinear theory of plates. The boundary value problem reduces to the equivalent integral equations, and the solutions to the linearized problem are given by means of generalized functions. Secondly, general properties of solutions of the nonlinear integral equations are qualitatively investigated. Some problems are discussed in detail, such as wrinkling, non-negativity and singularity of solutions, which are of interest to physics and computation. In addition, the global uniqueness and existence theorems for solutions are given by the fixed point principle. Next, on the basis of these qualitative conclusions, a solving process extending the iterative method presented by Keller and Reiss and called ``bilateral monotonic iterative method'', is given. The convergence criteria and the error estimates of iterative process are obtained. Finally, as an example, the author calculates the bending of a polar orthotropic plate under a moment along the edge. It shows that the conclusions and the methods of this article are valid. Several results are presented for the first time.
