The paper considers a generic hypersurface of degree \(d\) in \(\mathbb{P}^ n\) and the class of lines contained in \(X\). The author proves that this class equals the top Chern class of the vector bundle \(S^ dU^*\) where \(U\) is the universal bundle on \(G(2,n+1)\), the Grassmannians of lines in \(\mathbb{P}^ n\). Moreover, he investigates what happens to this class of lines under degeneration, in particular when \(X\) becomes reducible. Set- theoretically, the result about the set of limiting lines is a generalization of Katz' result for quintic threefolds.
