A nilpotent \(n\)-dimensional Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\) is called filiform if its descending central series vanishes just at the \((n-1)\)-th term. On the other hand, if \(n\) is even, say \(n=2m\), a symplectic form on \({\mathfrak g}\) is an alternate bilinear form \(\theta\) such that \(\theta\) is closed (in the sense of Lie algebra cohomology) and moreover the \(m\)-th exterior power of \(\theta\) is different from \(0\). In the paper under review, one first describes a natural correspondence between the nilpotent \(2m\)-dimensional Lie algebras endowed with a symplectic form \(\theta\) and the nilpotent \((2m+1)\)-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras endowed with a contact form \(\sigma\), that is a linear form \(\sigma\) such that the exterior product between \(\sigma\) and the \(m\)-th exterior power of the differential of \(\sigma\) is different from \(0\). One then completely classifies the filiform Lie algebras of dimension at most \(10\) admitting a symplectic form, and in each case all the existing symplectic forms are completely described.
