A constitutive equation of rate type is derived from Onsager's theory of non-equilibrium processes. Some simple solutions of the equation are discussed, and it is found that the material at hand exhibits different kinds of relaxation phenomena, normal stress effects, non-Newtonian behaviour, plastic properties as well as the creep and elasticity at small loads.
