New exact solutions are derived of the dynamic equations for an effective nonlinear sigma model (NSM) for a vacuum planar-symmetry gravitational field by the use of a functional-parameter method. The solutions are Bäcklund transformations of solutions to D'Alembert's and Einstein's equations.
