From the conclusions: We study the motion of a filament immersed in Stokes hydrodynamics. Dynamics of the filament and fluid flow is intimately coupled, with the filament growth driving the flow and the flow deforming the filament shape. Our integro-differential model does not suffer from asymptotic slow convergence, and does not exhibit unphysical higher-wavenumber instabilities. Our numerical schme has high spatial accuracy and is not constrained by stiffness. Numerical simulations show that the model captures the global dynamics of filament motion, and results in flexing patterns very similar to those observed in experiments of the \(I-S_A\) phase transition.
