Here, the Emden-Fowler equation \[ u^{(n)}=(-1)^np(t)|u|^\lambda \text{sgn}u, \quad 0<\lambda<1, \quad n\geq 2, \quad p(t)\geq 0,\quad a<t<w\leq +\infty,\tag{1} \] with a locally integrable function \(p(t)\) that is nonzero on a set of positive measure in an arbitrary neighbourhood of \(+\infty\) is considered. The author investigates the Kneser solution \(u:[a,+\infty)\to\mathbb{R}\) to (1) vanishing at infinity, i.e., a solution to (1) such that \[ (-1)^i u^{(i)}(t)u(t)>0, \quad i=0,\dots, n-1, \;t\in [a,+\infty), \quad \lim_{t\to +\infty} u(t)=0. \tag{2} \] Necessary conditions are given for the solvability of problem (1), (2), which are close to sufficient conditions. These conditions substantially strengthen the known necessary conditions and bring an effective criterion for the unsolvability of problem (1), (2). Furthermore, there are given lower bounds for the function \[ v_{n-1}(t)=\sum _{i=0}^{n-1}|u^{(i)}(t)|t^i/i!. \]
