The diffraction problem of an electromagnetic (or acoustic) wave by a right-angled wedge \(\Omega_ w\) with perfectly conducting (or soft) faces is treated in a Sobolev space setting. The problem is formulated as a Dirichlet boundary-value problem for the Helmholtz equation in the exterior Lipschitz domain \({\mathbb{R}}^ 2\setminus {\bar \Omega}_ w\). It is shown that this boundary-value problem is decomposable into two simpler ones whose (unique) solutions are explicitly determined by inverting, respectively, a Wiener-Hopf and a Hankel operator.
