The authors discuss different aspects of the heart modelling, including electrophysiological activity, blood circulation due to contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle, evolution of ionic concentrations, and active force generation. Then they present a finite element approximation with time discretization of the derived equations with a discussion of stability, accuracy and computational complexity issues.
