Conditions are given on a group \(G\) and on the locally nilpotent maximal subgroup \(M\) of \(G\), under which the group \(G\) is locally solvable. In particular it is proved that a periodic or finitely generated linear group \(G\) with a locally nilpotent maximal subgroup \(M\) is solvable, with the unique possible exception in the case that the quotient group \(M/M_G\) (\(M_G\) the core of \(M\) in \(G\)) is a 2-group (even nilpotent of class larger than 2).
