Let \(k\) be a field and \(G\) be a connected linear algebraic \(k\)-group. Let \(L_1, \dots, L_r\) be finite field extensions of \(k\) with degrees \(d_1, \dots, d_r\), such that \(\mathrm{gcd}(d_1, \dots, d_r) = 1\). Serre's injective question asks: is the canonical map \(H^1(k, G) \to \prod_{i=1}^r H^1(L_i, G)\) between Galois cohomologies injective? In this article, it is shown that when \(\mathrm{char}(k) \neq 2\) and the reductive \(k\)-group \(G\) contains solely factors of type \(A_n\), \(B_n\), \(C_n\) in its Dynkin diagram, then Serre's question admits a positive answer. This is achieved by relating the injectivity question to the weak norm principle for a certain larger group \(\tilde{G} \supset G\), and then apply the norm principle established in [\textit{P. Barquero} and \textit{A. Merkurjev}, in: Proceedings of the international colloquium on algebra, arithmetic and geometry, Mumbai, India, January 4--12, 2000. Part I and II. New Delhi: Narosa Publishing House, published for the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay. 123--137 (2002; Zbl 1036.20041)]. Another crucial ingredient in this argument comes from [\textit{J. Black}, J. Algebra 334, No. 1, 232--246 (2011; Zbl 1271.11046)]. In the remaining part, the author gives a scalar obstruction for the norm principle for the non-trialitarian \(D_n\) case, thereby settles certain cases of Serre's question when \(G\) is allowed to contain non-trialitarian \(D_n\) factors as well. It is also shown that when \(\mathrm{char}(k) \neq 2\) and \(G\) is a quasi-split connected reductive \(k\)-group without \(E_8\) factors, the answer to Serre's question is positive.
