Substantial boundary points of plane domains have been studied by K. Strebel, R. Fehlmann and several others. The authors give a criterion for a boundary point of a domain \(D\) to be a substantial boundary point for the affine stretch mapping in \(D\). The criterion depends on the geometry of the domain \(D\) near the point and, in a sense, measures the ``narrowness'' of the domain near the point.
