Let \(\Omega\) be a domain in \({\mathbb{C}}^ N\). The author considers holomorphic maps f: \(\Omega\to {\mathbb{C}}^ M\) which take affine hyperplanes into affine hyperplanes, and is interested in criteria for the rationality of such maps. Let f: \(\Omega\to {\mathbb{C}}^ M\) be such a map and suppose also that f(\(\Omega\)) is not contained in any affine hyperplane of \({\mathbb{C}}^ M\). An affine hyperplane V of \({\mathbb{C}}^ M\) is called a regular hyperplane of f if there exists only one affine hyperplane U of \({\mathbb{C}}^ M\) such that f(V\(\cap \Omega)\subseteq U\), and further \(0\not\in U.\) The following result is proved: Let f: \(B^ N\to {\mathbb{C}}^ M\) be a holomorphic map that takes hyperplanes into hyperplanes. If f has a regular hyperplane the author shows how to define a map \(f^*\) called the reflection of f - a holomorphic map whose domain is a dense subset of \({\mathbb{C}}^ N\setminus B^ N\) and with target space \({\mathbb{C}}^ M\). This map also takes hyperplanes into hyperplanes, and if \(f^*\) has a regular hyperplane, then both f and \(f^*\) are rational.
