    Weierstrass hat (Theorie der Abel'schen Funktionen, Crelle LII. 76) die Entwickelung der imaginären Periode für den Fall, dass der Modul der elliptischen Funktionen hinlänglich klein ist, bereits gegeben, aber in Betreff des Beweises auf ein späteres Capitel verwiesen, welches nicht erschienen ist. Herr Schläfli giebt hier einen Beweis für diese Entwickelung. Zunächst erhält man, wenn \(2iL\) die imaginäre Periode für den Modul \(k\) bezeichnet, aus dem Integral \(L=\int^{\infty}_{0} \frac{dz}{\sqrt{(1-z^{2})(1-k^{2}z^{2})}}:\) \[ L=2\sum^{\infty}_{0} n\frac{1.3\dots(2n-1)}{2.4\dots2n}\,k^{2n} \int^{\frac{1}{\sqrt{k}}}_{0} \frac{z^{2n}dz}{\sqrt{1+z^{2}}} \] und durch Entwickelung von \(z^{2}(1+z^{2})^{-\frac{1}{2}}\) \[ L=2\sum^{\infty}_{=} n \left(\frac{1.3\dots(2n-1)}{2.4\dots2n}\right)^{2} \left(\log\frac{2}{\sqrt{k}}- A_{n}\right)k^{2n}, \] wo \[ A_{n}=\frac{1}{n+1}+\frac{2}{n+2}+\cdot\cdot\cdot+\frac{1}{2n}. \] Der Verfasser giebt nun einen Weg an, auf dem die Doppelsumme und die ziemlich mühsame Bestimmung der Integrationsconstante umgangen wird.
