The authors consider the following nonlinear periodic boundary value problem \[ u''= f(t,u,u'),\quad u(a)= u(b),\quad u'(a)= w(u'(b)),\tag{1} \] were \(-\infty< a< b<\infty\); \(w: \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is continuous and nondecreasing; \(f: [a,b]\times \mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{R}\) satisfies the Carathéodory conditions on \([a,b]\times \mathbb{R}^2\). The authors present some new existence results for problem (1). These results are based on the method of lower and upper functions defined as solutions of systems of differential inequalities associated with problem (1) and their relation to the Leray-Schauder topological degree of the corresponding operator.
