Let \(w_{\alpha,\beta}=(1-x)^\alpha (1+x)^\beta\) be a Jacobi weight defining the Jacobi orthogonal polynomials. The authors study the uniform convergence of Lagrange interpolation polynomials constructed on the roots of the above polynomials, to the continuous functions of weighted function space \(C_{w_{\gamma,\delta}}=\{f, \lim_{| x|\to 1}(fw_{\gamma,\delta})(x)=0\}\) on the interval \([-1,1]\). The several conditions for \((\alpha,\beta)\), \((\gamma,\delta) \) and for some summation matrix are given to ensure the uniform convergence in question. For Part II see Acta Math. Hung. 103, No. 1-2, 1--17 (2004; Zbl 1062.41022).
