The authors give the derivation of a three-dimensional equation governing propagation of ion-acoustic waves in a multicomponent plasma (containing negative ions). Depending on the assumption about the components, the equation turns out to be a generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation with two transverse coordinates and, generally, an arbitrary power in the nonlinear term. Then, looking for a solution which is a function of a single variable (a linear combination of time and all spatial variables), the authors find a solution in the form of some power of the hyperbolic secant.
