In this interesting paper, the authors consider the general wideband model for radar echoes with unknown reflectivity density \(D\). Then the echo is given by an inverse wavelet transform of \(D\) where the analyzing wavelet is the transmitted signal. But the null space of an inverse wavelet transform is nontrivial. Following an approach of \textit{H. Naparst} [IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory 37, No. 2, 317-327 (1991; MR 92b:94009)], the authors treat this problem by transmitting not just one signal but a family of signals. Reconstruction formulas for 1- and 2-dimensional reflectivity densities are derived, provided that the set of outgoing signals forms an orthogonal basis or a frame. Error estimates for these reconstruction formulas and numerical examples are presented, too.
