There exists an interesting relation between standard stationary space-times and the associated Randers metric, which is called Fermat metric. The paper develops in full the correspondence between causality of the stationary metric and the global geometric properties of the Fermat metric. Among others several properties of the geodesic completeness of a Finsler space and of the associated Randers space are proven.
