The characterization of the equality case in the quadratic Alexandrov- Fenchel inequality \[ V(K,L,K_ 1,...,K_{n-2})^ 2\geq V(K,K,K_ 1,...,K_{n-2})\quad V(L,L,K_ 1,...,K_{n-2}) \] for mixed volumes is still an open question. The author has conjectured that the equality holds if and only if suitable homothets of K and L have the same \((B,K_ 1,...,K_{n-2})\)-extreme supporting hyperplanes (suitable defined). [See the author, Discrete Geometry and Convexity, Proc. Conf., New York 1982, Ann. N. Y. Acad. Sci. 440, 132-141 (1985; Zbl 0567.52004)]. In the present paper, the author proves this conjecture in the case where \(K_ 1,K_ 2,...,K_{n-2}\) are zonoids and K, L are centrally symmetric (no smoothness assumptions are necessary). The result is a good test in support of the general conjecture.
