The authors study the dynamics of a very general model of prey-predator pairs linked by competition. It is assumed that each predator feeds on one prey only and that there is no intraspecific interaction among the predators. Under certain assumptions on the vector field they obtain criteria for uniform persistence of the proposed model, without taking into account the existence of interior or boundary equilibria and their local stability characters. A sufficient condition for the global stability of an interior equilibrium is also derived. A four dimensional example with Holling type II predator functional response is treated.
