This paper discusses several variants of axioms for a metric space related to bolic metric spaces, which were introduced by \textit{G. Kasparov} and \textit{G. Skandalis} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 319, No. 8, 815-820 (1994; Zbl 0839.19003)]. These metric spaces generalize Gromov hyperbolic geodesic spaces and are related to the Novikov higher signature conjecture and the Baum-Connes conjecture.
