In a series of papers \textit{A. R. Kemer} [see e.g. Ideals of identities of associative algebras (Transl. Math. Monogr. 87, 1991; Zbl 0732.16001)] gave a complete classification of the \(T\)-ideals in the free associative algebra (over a field of characteristic zero). A fundamental role in these investigations was played by the prime \(T\)-ideals described as ideals of identities in some concrete algebras. Thus the algebras \(M_{k,l}(E)\), \(E\) the Grassmann algebra, have been extensively studied since then. The main results of the paper under review concern the identities in the algebra \(M_{1,1}(E)\). The author shows that all 2- graded identities in this algebra follow from the identities \(y_ 1y_ 2-y_ 2y_ 1 = 0\) and \(z_ 1z_ 2z_ 3 + z_ 3z_ 2z_ 1 = 0\) and describes the cocharacters of \(M_{1,1}(E)\). It is known that the algebras \(M_{1,1}(E)\) and \(E\otimes E\) have the same identities. A new proof of this fact is given in the present paper without using Kemer's structure theory of \(T\)-ideals.
